The Best Waffles Without Eggs (Nut Free, Dairy Free Option)

The best waffles without eggs are crisp on the outside, with thick pockets of a fluffy vanilla waffle flavor. These are made from simple ingredients, a DIY buttermilk, and can accommodate a dairy allergy as well!

I have a popular waffle recipe on the blog already, sourdough discard waffles, and realize that is not helpful to those who do not use sourdough starter!

How are the Best Waffles Without Eggs different from Eggless Sourdough Discard Waffles?

For starters, there is no starter. Hah. Ok Terrible jokes aside, there is no sourdough starter or discard in this recipe.

Also- This recipe for the best waffles without eggs is a smaller batch, making 9 large square waffles. Still a lot of waffles to be had! But perfect for a weekend morning when you have other things to tend to than standing over a waffle iron for an hour!

Of course, you could double the recipe to make a huge batch of waffles for the freezer. I always have on hand some kind of frozen homemade waffles or pancakes ready to be reheated.

Freeze Extra Waffles!

Yes, absolutely. As mentioned above, I love freezing breakfast foods like waffles since they reheat so well! To freeze the waffles, make sure they have cooled to room temperature first then place in a large ziploc bag or other freezer safe container. These will store for 2-3 months without the taste or texture being affected. To reheat, place on microwave safe plate and heat one at a time for 30-45 seconds. Alternatively place in a toaster oven like you would toast bread!

Make Your Own Buttermilk

By making your own ā€˜buttermilkā€™ which I refer to as ā€˜faux buttermilkā€™ in most of my recipes, you get the ease of cooking without the hassle of purchasing actual buttermilk from the store.

To make buttermilk, add white vinegar, apple cider vinegar or lime/lemon juice to your milk of choice. I have had great success making buttermilk with soy milk too!

Generally speaking 1 tablespoon of vinegar should be added to 1 cup of milk. Each recipe is different so itā€™s important to pay attention to the recipe card. I also do not remove the 1 tablespoon of milk to replace with vinegar but many recipes will. You will find what works for you!

Dairy Free Waffles

This recipe is also fantastic without dairy milk. Simply switch equal amount of dairy for soy milk. I havenā€™t tried other dairy free alternatives but soy milk is quite creamy and neutral in flavor making it a favorite for us.

Special Equipment

So the obvious special equipment necessary for making waffles is a waffle maker. I adore our Cuisinart Belgian Waffle Maker because it makes 4 (large!) waffles at a time. Your cutesy Dash isnā€™t going to do that for you, will it? šŸ˜‚ Nothing against the ā€˜specialā€™ waffle machines but I have not had much success with those small ones. Plus for the amount of waffles I make, it would take ages to cook one at a time! Do what is best for you and your family šŸ™‚
