Ingredients and Allergy-Friendly Options
Creating No Bake Birthday Cake Rice Crispy Treats is easy and FAST. With a few simple substitutions, you can make them allergy-friendly. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Rice Crispy Cereal: Ensure it is gluten-free if necessary!
- Marshmallows: Most packaged marshmallows are gluten-free, and Top 8 allergen free, but double-check the packaging to be sure. Check Every. Single. Time.
- Butter: Use dairy-free butter if you have lactose intolerance or a dairy allergy. My favorite is the Country Crock Avocado oil sticks.
- Cake Batter Extract: The star of our recipe, adding that distinct birthday cake flavor. I use the McCormick brand.
- Sprinkles: Make sure they are free of any allergens. Sometimes, egg can be hiding in the ingredients! Especially those ‘candy eyes’.
By choosing the right ingredients, you can make sure everyone at the party can enjoy these tasty treats.
The Magic of Cake Batter Extract
Cake batter extract is what sets these No Bake Birthday Cake Rice Crispy Treats apart from your average rice crispy squares. This extract infuses the treats with that classic birthday cake flavor we all love. You can find cake batter extract at some craft specialty stores or might be easier and least expensive to order online. A little goes a long way, so you only need a small amount to transform your treats into a birthday cake sensation.
Tips for Using Cake Batter Extract
- Start Small: Add a little at a time and taste as you go to ensure you get the perfect flavor. I find that 1/2 teaspoon is just enough to give them the essence of birthday cake batter.
- Mix Well: Make sure to evenly distribute the extract throughout the mixture for consistent flavor in every bite.
*I have called the McCormick phone line and their allergen information states that they would indicate any allergens present in natural flavors. If there are any ingredients such as nuts in the ‘natural flavors’ it would say so on the box.*
