Every now and then you need just a bit of frosting. This small batch easy chocolate frosting recipe is perfect for a couple small 6 inch round cakes, an 8×8 pan of brownies, a dozen cupcakes and even cookies. You will love this chocolate frosting that is light and airy but full of a buttery rich chocolate flavor. Perfect for my chocolate wacky cake (which if you aren’t familiar is a one bowl, egg free and dairy free chocolate cake.)
So whether you are whipping up a cozy batch of brownies or a few delectable cookies, this simple-to-follow recipe promises to elevate your treats. It delivers a rich, velvety sweetness with just a handful of components. All you need is one bowl and some pretty basic ingredients. You do not need a hand mixer for this recipe but it sure is helpful.
How to achieve this small batch of easy chocolate frosting:
Add butter to medium mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer or sheer arm strength, whip the butter for several minutes until color lightens slightly and texture is airy.
Drop in your powdered sugar in batches, then unsweetened cocoa powder and whip again until mixed well.
Mix in vanilla extract and milk. Use less milk if you want a stiff frosting, more milk if you want it creamy and super spreadable.
Things that helped in the kitchen for this recipe, and can help you too:
Glass mixing bowl set –I used the small size in this recipe; a glass bowl works well so you can make sure the water isn’t actually touching the bowl. Stainless steel would work fine too, but obviously cannot see the steam or if the bowl is touching the water- (amazon)
Nestle Toll House Cocoa powder – I prefer this brand but you can use whatever you have on hand!
