Have you ever been so tempted to eat the cookie dough you are about to bake but know in your heart of hearts that it is not… consciously ok?
Of course you have! It is only natural. We have all been there, scooping out delicious finger-fulls of chocolate chip cookie dough before they hit the pan to be baked.
Edible cookie dough is not a new recipe by any means, but it creates a whole realm of other recipe opportunities.
For example, want to make a delicious eggless cookie dough ice cream? Use this as your edible cookie dough base.
How about a no bake cookie dough cheesecake? Toss some of these delicious bites of cookie dough in!
Really, the options are endless. Of course, you could always eat it on its own because who wouldn’t want that?
What makes this recipe special?
It is simple and it is quick. And it actually tastes like cookie dough you would bake. There is a mix of brown sugar and white sugar in this recipe along with heavy cream that really amps up the flavor and creaminess. I have tried many recipes and it feels like it is missing something, however this recipe provides the full effect of a chocolate chip cookie dough.
Safe for all the egg allergic people
A naturally egg free recipe, perfect for anyone who has an egg allergy. No missing out on this special treat!
Storage
You can store this egg free edible cookie dough to eat in the fridge for 3-4 days. Any amount of time after that it might start tasting like ‘fridge’ (IYKYK.)
It can also be stored in the freezer for about a month. I use a regular freezer zip top bag. Be sure to either flatten and cut into cubes or scoop into balls before freezing. I use a small cookie scoop. You do not want to be fighting with a large chunk of cookie dough when you desire it most.
Cookie Dough Pregnancy Craving Bonus
This is a safe cookie dough alternative for all those pregnant ladies that crave chocolate chip cookie dough! I remember being pregnant and wanting the dough sooo badly that I would severely underbake the cookies just so I could have that hint of dough flavor — spoiler alert, it rarely curved the craving but at least the cookies were delicious haha!
Use a mix of chocolate chips
This recipe for egg free edible cookie dough to eat uses both mini chocolate chips and regular standard sized chocolate chips. If you only have one on hand that is ok, but I think the additional sizes really give it a more dimensional texture and taste.
Do I really have to heat treat flour?
Harmful bacteria grows on raw flour so consuming it without cooking it off can mean detrimental health consequences. I would not chance not heating it first. I like to go for 165F with my instant read thermometer, but most internet polls will say 160 is absolutely fine. I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to food safety.
You can order an instant read food thermometer on amazon for 15 bucks or less usually. I always link all the kitchen tools and equipment I use below. I really truly use the instant read food thermometer on a daily basis and it is a worthwhile ‘investment.’
How to make the best egg free edible cookie dough to eat *munch munch*
First you want to make sure your flour is safe to consume. To do this, you will need to heat treat the flour. Begin by heat treating the flour in a microwave safe dish, cooking for 20-30 seconds until an instant read food thermometer measure at least 165F. Do not skip this step. Stir the flour to fluff it up a bit and set aside.
In a separate medium mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugars.
Use a hand mixer or blend well with your own strength!
Once it is light and airy, add in the cream, and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
Next, add the heat treated flour and sprinkle the sea salt on top. Mix again until fully combined.
Lastly, add in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed. Enjoy right away or refrigerate and eat cold.
